Greenwich Soccer Portraits 2023

Portrait of Greenwich Soccer October 2023. Photo by DAVE DABOUR

New Jersey Sport Portrait Photographer

Besides photographing dancers, I also enjoy photographing sports teams and recreation leagues. These include individual and team images.

I’ve been photographing Soccer for the Greenwich Township Recreation League for the past 7 years. Great group of athletes and coaches!

This year because of their schedule, we had photo day on two weeknights. This means we’re chasing sunlight as the sun starts to set earlier and earlier. Luckily our weather for both evenings was ideal, and we got everyone done and on time!

Spooky portraits for Olivia

Spooky portraits for Olivia and her younger sister. Photos by DAVE DABOUR

Olivia and her younger sister had a great time creating spooky portraits in my studio recently! Olivia is a dancer at West Jersey Youth Ballet. I did a similar session for a good friend of hers and she wanted the same experience!

When Olivia and her sister came into my studio and I was chatting with them, the first image I had in my mind was the one above. But I wasn’t sure if her younger sister would a) fit into the ‘pot’ or b) go with it. So, I chatted about the idea with her mom and she said, ‘that sounds great – let’s give it a try!’ Needless to say, it turned out great and they all loved the images.

Rayleigh Did Great in her first dance portrait session

Rayleigh’s mom contacted me to have her daughter in a dance photo session as many moms do. I asked her how old her daughter was, and she said ‘three!’ I photographed young dancers before but not usually by themselves. She told me while she’s a little shy, she thought she would be good for the portrait session.

And we did have a great portrait session and created several different images for them both. I think it was a little too much for her (completely understandable) and after about 10 minutes wasn’t too interested in continuing anymore.

Photo booth fun with Miss New Jersey

Bloomsbury Community Day 2023 was this past Sunday, and my photo booth was there to the delight of everyone who attended. One of the attendees was our very own Miss New Jersey, Hope Kiehl. .

As always there was plenty to do and eat at Community Day this year. If you left there hungry, it was your own fault. There was a balloon person, face painters, live band, pumpkin painting and more!

Rain Machine Experience for Vivi

Vivi experienced my rain machine recently and as you can see, she had a fun time!

The rain machine experience is even better with dance friends!

This is something I only offer in July and August. It’s just about time to put it away for the season. I do have a few openings, mostly for groups of 4 or more. So if you’re ready or just want to find out more click here: Single Groups and also great for athletes of all types of sports

Dancing Streetlights

I took another photo walk on the streets of downtown Chicago. The last time I did so was in the summer of 2021. Both times Joryn was one of the dancer models that went with us. When we got to the same spot we were at in 2021, I turned to Joryn and said, ‘are you a climber?’ She replied yes and a few minutes later I had the image on the right! I forgot I captured the image on the left two years earlier!

There’s something very nice about photographing dancers (or any models) on the streets of a busy city. It’s the type of thing you want to do as a group so there’s more than one pair of eyes watching everything and looking for more opportunities.

So How Can a Rain Session Get Rained Out?

Well, that’s the short easy answer. There are other things to consider too. The lighting I use to illuminate the manufactured rain uses electric lights all around my rain machine. I could probably cover them, and they would probably be OK but then there’s extension cords laying around in the rain…

The important answer is it takes away from the experience. When it’s raining its cooler which makes everything feel cooler. Friends and family that are watching wouldn’t get to enjoy it as much if it wasn’t raining. Plus, I can’t put out all the other nice amenities like my patio heater, dry towels, posing charts, chairs to sit in, etc.

So, let’s reschedule the rain machine experience to a nicer summer evening and pray that we get more of them soon!

Dance Portraits for Sophia

Dance portraits for Sophia in Austin, TX

Here are some tips for creating breathtaking dance portrait photography:

  1. Plan ahead. Before the shoot, discuss with the dancer what kind of poses they want to do and what kind of mood they want to convey.
  2. Use a fast shutter speed. Dance moves are fast and fluid, so you’ll need a fast shutter speed to capture them in motion.
  3. Use a wide aperture. A wide aperture will help you blur the background and keep the focus on the dancer.
  4. Use a telephoto lens. A telephoto lens will help you get close-up shots of the dancer without getting in their way.
  5. Use natural light. Natural light is best for capturing the beauty of dance.
  6. Capture emotion. Dance is all about emotion, so make sure you capture that in your photos.
  7. Edit your photos. Editing can help bring out the best in your photos and make them truly breathtaking.

I hope these tips help you create some amazing dance portraits! If you have any other questions or need more information, feel free to ask.
