Spotlight on Legally Blonde: Capturing the Magic at Southern Lehigh High School
When the curtain rises on Legally Blonde at Southern Lehigh High School this weekend, the audience will witness weeks if not months of hard work and passion come alive on stage. As a photographer, I had the privilege of documenting not only the performance but also the incredible effort that went into creating this vibrant production. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite shots and shining a spotlight on the talented cast and crew who brought Elle Woods’ story to life.

A Picture-Perfect Cast: One of my favorite aspects of photographing this production was capturing the energy of the cast. From rehearsals to final performances, their dedication and talent shine through every frame. Whether it’s Elle’s confidence, Paulette’s charm, or Emmett’s quiet strength, each performer brought their character to life with remarkable precision. Just look at these smiles—pure joy and passion!

Behind-the-Scenes Brilliance: Every theatrical production is a collaboration, and this one was no exception. The crew worked tirelessly to design stunning sets, coordinate seamless lighting, and create costumes that transported the audience into Elle’s world. I’ve been the photographer for the Freddy Awards at the State Theatre for the Arts for the past 12 years. This year will mark my 13th year. To mix things up a little last year, I captured the magic of the awards ceremony from backstage.
The first thing you notice backstage is how much quieter it is!
There’s also a lot going on and you have to pay attention to what’s going on or what’s about to go on, so you don’t get run over!

As a theater photographer, my passion lies in freezing those fleeting moments that encapsulate the essence of a performance. Recently, I had the distinct pleasure of photographing the upcoming production of Big Fish at Delaware Valley High School. This experience was not just a job but a journey into a world of dreams, love, and adventure that Big Fish beautifully portrays.

From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the energy and dedication of the students. Each performer brought their unique flair to their roles, making my job an absolute delight. The vibrant costumes, designed by the talented costume crew, added layers of depth to the characters, and the elaborate sets transported everyone to the whimsical world of Edward Bloom’s tall tales.

One of my favorite scenes to capture was the circus, a kaleidoscope of colors and excitement. The actors’ expressions, the choreography, and the lighting created a visual feast that was both challenging and rewarding to photograph. Each shot aimed to convey the spectacle and the emotion that the scene demanded.

Another highlight was photographing the intimate moments between Edward and his son, Will. These scenes required a delicate touch to capture the nuanced performances and the emotional weight they carried. The actors’ ability to convey complex emotions through subtle gestures and expressions made these photos some of my most cherished.
I also had the opportunity to take behind-the-scenes shots, capturing candid moments of the cast and crew. These photos provide a glimpse into the hard work and camaraderie that goes into creating such a production. It’s in these moments that the true spirit of theater shines through—the laughter, the teamwork, and the shared love for the art form.
Delaware Valley High School’s Big Fish is a testament to the extraordinary talent and dedication of its students and faculty. It was an honor to document this journey and preserve these memories for everyone involved. I hope these photographs will not only serve as a memento of this production but also inspire future generations of performers and artists.

I had the pleasure to create some publicity photographs for Southern Lehigh High School next theater production of ‘Legally Blonde’ the musical.
Southern Lehigh participates in the Freddy Awards which takes place in May at the State Theatre in Easton. Last year they received several nominations! I’ve been the Freddy Awards photographer for the past 13 years.
I only spent a short time with this cast so far but their dedication and enthusiasm to the show is contagious! I’m looking forward to returning and photographing their show soon!
