LBI Luxury

I had an opportunity to stay at a friends relative’s house on LBI recently. It’s a gorgeous house located in Beach Haven about 1 mile south of Fantasy Island.

To the left is a photograph of the kitchen.

Fall Is In the Trees

WP_000773

With the warmer and wetter weather of late it hasn’t been feeling as “fally” as it was before the hurricane hit. But that doesn’t mean that the trees haven’t notice the change in the calendar. Some maple trees are starting to put on their end of season colors.

Verrazano Hello

WP_000772

Due to hurricane Irene I had the pleasure recently of driving on or near the Verrazano bridge several times. With the blue skies and light traffic I thought this was a nice shot from my camera phone.

Serious Cirrus

I was taken with how the illuminated clouds were highlighted against the blue sky and dark green trees just before sunset recently.

Batteries Available

BatteriesWhile recently visiting a warehouse club I was impressed with the stack of batteries on display. Not that this is unusual but on Long Island were hurricane Irene recently struck, batteries are at a premium. I was inside a Home Depot the day before Irene hit and they were going like candy. I asked the employee if he had any D’s left and he handed me the last package!

LI Ducks Are Quackers

LIDucks

I treated my brother to a minor league baseball game as a belated birthday present. We saw the LI Ducks take on the Somerset Patriots. Word is it that the Patriots home field is flooded out. The Patriots managed to win as they never looked behind with a 7-2 win over the Ducks.

PieContest

I love all the in between innings things minor league stadiums do to keep the crowd engaged. One of my favorite is the pie eating contest. I’m sure the kids didn’t mind too much and got a nice sugar rush!

Two Bucks

Wed245

First bucks of the season on my property. What amazed me the most was not only were there two of them (one had 6 points already!) but there were two younger deer traveling with them. I know this is the modern age but I didn’t think I’d see this translate to animals as well!!

Warm Winter Ahead?

Sat241

I noticed the season’s first wooly caterpillar at my house. It didn’t look as big and woolly as past years. Sign of a warmer winter ahead? Or perhaps he was just reacting to the insecticide that was put on the lawn a few days earlier? Time will tell…

Sink Hole Back Home

SinkHole

The power was still out at my mom’s house so we decided to leave Long Island and head back to Jersey until power is restored.

Upon traveling back I came across a sink hole that developed on route 22 in Phillipsburg probably the result of the heavy rains from Irene. 6.72” fell in Stewartsville. good news is the sink hole is repaired and all lanes are back open.

Irene Follow-Up

Mon243

I wanted to post more pictures from the Irene damage but forgot. One of the strangest is what appears to be the wallpapering of shredded leaves on all outdoor surfaces. This goes all the way up to the roof! This just goes to show you how incredibly strong the winds were and the combined rain acted to paste them onto anything and everything.

Power is still out at my mom’s house. No word yet on when it will be restored.
