Some dancers simply enjoy a seasonal theme, while others live for it! Second-year dance ambassador Elijah (@elijahinthearts) falls firmly into the second category. Elijah loves our Spooky Dance Portrait sessions so much that he actually came twice last year!
Knowing how much he looks forward to this annual shoot, Elijah prepared all of his poses, concepts, and character scenes well in advance so he could make every second in front of the lens count—and the dedication shows in every frame.
Preparation Meets Performance
While many of our featured dancers demonstrate classical pointe work, Elijah highlights a completely different, highly dramatic dimension of dance portraiture. Excelling in modeling, acting, and physical movement, Elijah transformed our studio into a cinematic stage.
His incredible Edward Scissorhands homage captured the delicate balance of vulnerability and gothic intensity, while his red balloon levitation concept showcased mind-bending physical control and storytelling prowess. Seeing a dancer plan ahead with such artistic vision makes photographing Elijah a pure thrill!
Session Highlights
- Edward Scissorhands Homage: Dressed in costume with scissor-blade gloves, Elijah delivered a striking, moody portrait featuring brilliant lighting and expressive character modeling.
- Mysterious Silhouette: Posing in dark robes against a glowing red studio backdrop with a single floating balloon, Elijah created an iconic, suspenseful silhouette.
- Balloon Levitation: Demonstrating phenomenal core strength and physical technique, Elijah executed a levitation arch supported visually by a cluster of red balloons.
- Ghoulish Intensity: Draped in spiderweb netting between Haunted Mansion tombstones, Elijah reached toward the camera in a dramatic backbend that highlighted his acting range.
